Born in Brescia in 1980, Gardoni’s path to the arts was far from conventional; he experienced a profound creative awakening in his late twenties after an encounter with the works of Mark Rothko. This moment sparked a transition from abstract, gestural painting toward a multidisciplinary approach where the digital frame is treated with the same tactile intentionality as a canvas.

Currently based in the Camonica Valley within the Italian Alps, Gardoni views the camera lens as an extension of the paintbrush, seeking to capture the fluid, temporal textures of the natural world. He treats the „performing act“ as the vital core of his process, approaching filmmaking as a form of „chromatic movement“ where the lens records the slow-motion brushstrokes of light and shadow found in the wild. His philosophy emphasizes an unmediated dialogue with the environment, influenced by the ancestral spirit of the valley’s ancient rock carvings and traditional craftsmanship. By eschewing digital post-production, he allows the organic rhythms of glaciers and rivers to dictate the composition, effectively transforming the screen into a living, breathing landscape.

This immersion is most evident in his ongoing project, Water and Ice, where the water’s surface becomes a site for exploring depth, transparency, and the physical weight of color. His cinematic installations, including Histela, Gleno, and No Water, have garnered international attention, leading to a selection for the 2023 World Water Film Festival in New York. Ultimately, Gardoni’s work remains a profound ritual of observation, positioning the artist as a witness to the fluid boundaries between time, matter, and the moving image.
